  • Leighton Hospital, Crewe – Multi-Year MEP Programme

Project Overview Barlows has been a key delivery partner at Leighton Hospital in Crewe for the past five years, working as part of a dedicated team to execute complex MEP projects across the live hospital site.

Leighton Hospital, operated by Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, was constructed in the 1970s and features extensive reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) planks in many buildings. This has necessitated careful ongoing management and remediation to mitigate risks while maintaining full operational continuity.

Our involvement has spanned specialist clinical areas, wards, administrative spaces, and estates facilities, all delivered with strict adherence to NHS Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) standards, including:

    • HTM 03-01 – Specialised ventilation for healthcare premises
    • HTM 04-01 – Safe water in healthcare premises
    • HTM 06-02 – Low Voltage Safety

Key Focus Areas A primary emphasis throughout the programme has been fostering a strong safety culture and professional behaviours among our teams. Working in a live acute hospital environment demands unwavering compliance with hospital rules, infection control protocols, behavioural expectations, and respectful interactions with staff, patients, visitors, and the public every day.

    Barlows has consistently prioritised:
