Volvo Cars Preston – New Build Dealership
Project Overview Barlows was appointed to deliver the full MEP design and build for the new Volvo Cars Preston dealership, a modern retail and service facility constructed on Bluebell Way, Fulwood, near Junction 31a of the M6.
The project, completed around 2020, was developed as part of Volvo’s network expansion and handed over to operator Rybrook (now part of the Sytner Group). It created a premium, customer-focused environment aligned with Volvo’s contemporary brand standards, featuring high-specification showroom, onsite servicing, and extensive external display/sales areas.
Key Features
- Spacious, contemporary showroom for new and approved used Volvo vehicles
- Fully equipped onsite service department with workshops and preparation bays
- External car park and vehicle display compound
- Customer reception, handover zones, and client facilities
- Comprehensive MEP systems including efficient HVAC for comfort in public and workshop areas, advanced lighting (interior/exterior), power distribution, data/comms infrastructure, plumbing/hot water services, ventilation for service bays, and fire safety/protection installations
The facility supports high-volume sales, aftersales servicing, and a seamless customer journey in a bright, welcoming setting that reflects Volvo’s Scandinavian design ethos.
Delivery and Collaboration Barlows worked closely with the main contractor to integrate reliable, energy-efficient MEP solutions tailored to automotive retail demands. This included robust systems for the high-usage service department (e.g., extraction and ventilation) alongside clean, stylish installations in the front-of-house showroom and customer areas.
The project was delivered on programme, enabling a smooth opening and quick establishment as a key Volvo retailer in Lancashire.
Outcome Volvo Cars Preston has become a flagship dealership in the region, offering full sales, service, and parts capabilities with excellent motorway access. It enhances Volvo’s presence in the North West, providing customers with a modern, premium experience while supporting efficient operations for the retailer.
This new-build project highlights Barlows’ expertise in delivering complex MEP packages for automotive dealerships, ensuring high-performance systems that balance aesthetics, functionality, and reliability in a competitive retail environment.
